Turning Bible reading from confusion into clarity
Most Bible apps assume motivation is the problem. Through early product discovery, we uncovered something deeper: confusion is the real habit killer.
Many Christians want to read the Bible consistently, but when they hit a verse they don’t understand, momentum breaks and the habit never forms. Scripturly was created to solve that exact moment.
I partnered closely with the founder, PM, and engineering to define a focused V1 experience built around a single promise: turn moments of confusion into moments of clarity. Rather than overloading the MVP with random features, we intentionally designed a distraction-free reading experience where understanding comes first.

Testable product strategy
By narrowing V1 to a single “magic moment” — instant verse explanation — the team was able to:
Validate user value faster
Reduce build complexity
Align design and engineering around one primary success metric
The Tap-a-Verse interaction was designed to:
Preserve reading context (no page changes)
Deliver explanations in concise, human language
Feel supportive rather than instructional
This transformed a high-dropoff moment into a reason to continue reading.

Room for growth
While V1 intentionally excluded features like reading plans and streaks (already designed but will get introduced in V2), the UX architecture supports them cleanly in future versions without rework. The product is now positioned to evolve from clarity to consistency to habit.
Success metrics defined for launch included:
Daily Active Users (DAU)
Frequency of verse explanations per session
Day 7 / Day 30 retention
Conversion from download → subscription
