Locations Details

Procore’s Locations feature was underused, only 8% of projects adopted it. Field teams struggled to track work across complex sites like multi-floor buildings. Electrical, HVAC, and GC teams lacked a unified view, leading to delays, duplicated tasks, and reporting gaps.

Users & needs

  • Foremen: Needed clarity on current physical location and progress.

  • PMs: Wanted visibility into who’s doing what, and where.

  • Supers: Required easier navigation across floors/sites to reduce rework.

To help these people get better understanding of the work being done on their assigned locations, I prototyped flows for map-based navigation and filtering, and conducted usability tests, iterated designs, and partnered with PMs/engineers to ship.

Key design decisions

  • Live location context: Synced the location detail page and drawings to ensure users always knew where they were—physically and within the UI.

  • Breadcrumbs: Added location breadcrumbs to clarify navigation depth and origin.

  • Clear ownership: Made assignees and work status visible at a glance, so crews could see who’s doing what, and where.

  • Linked tagging: Ensured all project items were location-tagged, enabling accurate filtering, tracking, and reporting.
