Help increase activation and adoption of Venmo QRC
Venmo’s growth team aimed to drive repeated use of the Venmo Debit Card through a new rewards feature: Punch Card. The concept was to offer cash-back incentives after multiple purchases at selected merchants.
Tasks
As lead designer, my role was to design the Punch Card experience to make it clear, engaging, and seamlessly integrated into Venmo’s app. The goal was to encourage more users to enroll, track their progress effortlessly, and feel motivated to complete rewards.
Action plan
✔️ Reimagined the Punch Card as a progressive visual tracker embedded in the main card hub. ✔️ Simplified language and iconography to make reward steps instantly clear. ✔️ Added personalized merchant callouts and dynamic nudges to encourage completion. ✔️ Collaborated with the engineering team to ensure seamless integration without performance hits.
Results
✅ The redesign was successfully launched and received positive internal and user feedback for improving clarity and ease of use. ✅ It was recognized internally as a key example of how thoughtful UX can turn a low-performing feature into a more engaging experience, helping lay the groundwork for future growth initiatives in Venmo’s card ecosystem.
